Do you scrub your face as quickly as possible and then splash on some toner and moisturiser as you run out the door? You might spend a lot of money on fantastic skincare products, but if you’re not using them correctly, you might as well be squeezing them down the drain. Our busy lives make it hard to dedicate a good half-hour to our faces each morning and evening, but if you can try to give yourself as close to that amount of time as possible to apply your products properly, you will notice a huge difference in just a week.
Nuriss is an expert skincare clinic and wellness centre in the heart of London and our professionals have put together this basic guide to the most effective skincare routine, with tips on what products to choose for your age group and skin type.

Cleanser
So many people have no idea that they are potentially wasting their face wash. Cleanser works by deep cleaning your skin right down into the pores, so, naturally, if your pores aren’t open, it’s not going to be able to do its job. We suggest cleansing towards the end of a shower, or even after you get out of the shower at the sink, to allow the warm water time to open up your pores. But equally important, make sure you don’t just wipe the product across your face and wash it off. Spend some time (up to 10 minutes) gently massaging it around your face with your fingertips. Nuriss has a range of cleansers to choose from, for all different skin types, including a fantastic collagen-boosting rosehip seed cleanser and an alpha beta activating cleanser, which is perfect for oily or problematic skin.
Toner
After cleansing, it’s important to close your pores back up with a splash of toner to minimise dirt and other toxins making their way deep into your skin. We recommend Nuriss’s Invigorating, PH Balancing Toner, which sends revitalising CoQ10 enzymes into the cells. Its powerful antioxidants provide a natural PH balance for the skin, leaving it feeling healthy and protected. Aloe leaf, chamomile, sage, papaya, cucumber and orange extracts are the key ingredients in the toner that leave your skin feeling healthy and protected.
Exfoliator
Exfoliation is an important part of your skincare routine, but it should only be done once or twice a week, and you need to be mindful of your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, you should only use a gentle exfoliator. Some people make the mistake of exfoliating every day, but that is far too much irritation for your skin, and it will be left raw and open to the elements. Nuriss has a range of masks and exfoliators that work to polish and refresh the skin by removing dead cells and making room for healthy, fresh ones to surface. We recommend the Blemish Control Therapeutic Zinc and Sulfur Mask for people with oily, problematic skin. It uses bentonine clay, zinc oxide, sulphur and salicylic acid to promote healing, soothing and purification.

Moisturiser
The mistake many people make with moisturiser is using too much and wasting it. Like cleanser, you don’t need to load it on, because only a thin layer will be absorbed into your skin and the excess will make your face look shiny and greasy. Put a small amount on your fingertips and gently massage it in circles across your face and neck, except around your eyes. We recommend Nuriss’s Vitamin Infusion Nourishing Day and Night Creams for most skin types. The almond-oil based day cream is a refreshing, hydrating and moisture-boosting moisturiser with sunscreen, and it should be applied each morning after cleansing and toning. The night cream deeply nourishes the skin, working into lines, wrinkles and dry, ageing skin, using highly advanced active ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, which is great for elasticity and radiance.

Eye serum or cream
Another common mistake people make during their skincare routine is moisturising the whole face, including around the eyes, and then putting their eye cream or serum on over it. The problem with that is the moisturiser is not designed for the extremely delicate skin around the eyes and it blocks the purpose-designed eye product from working itself deep into the skin. Eye creams and serums are one of the skincare products that you really do need to spend a bit of money on, but they are well worth it. Nuriss’s vitamin and mineral-infused Eye Perfection Contouring Cream hydrates and nourishes the delicate area, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
Sunscreen
Now that you are correctly applying your skincare products, your face will be fresher and more exposed to the elements, because you are deep cleaning instead of simply brushing the surface. It means your skin will look cleaner, brighter and rejuvenated, but it also means it will be more exposed to harmful elements such as the sun. Sunscreen is so important to slowing down the ageing process and keeping your skin healthy. Nuriss’s Moisturising Sunscreen Lotion is a fantastic option because it not only suits all skin types, but it also hydrates and invigorates the skin with a nourishing blend of oils and aloe. If you have particularly sensitive skin, Nuriss’s Sensitive Sunscreen Spray is a dry oil solution that uses safe, natural and effective alternative ingredients to protect against UV rays.
