How can I tell if I will develop stretch marks?
At least half of pregnant women develop stretch marks as they carry their baby to term. However, there are a number of factors that can increase your likelihood of developing them. Research suggests genetics may play a role – you are more likely to develop stretch marks after pregnancy if your mother did. Stretch marks only occur when your skin is rapidly stretched. Therefore, you are more prone to them if you rapidly gain or lose weight, are carrying more than one baby, or have excessive amniotic fluid.
